Movie Style
My ‘MovieStyle’ image is featured on PDN’s famous ‘Photo Of The Day‘ blog , a great honor to every photographer. Photo District News (PDN) is the leading source and publication on professional photography in the US. Selected by the PDN editors, Photo Of The Day features a very tight edited folio of remarkable photography. Well worth to bookmark and to follow for everyone who is interested in photography.
MovieStyle – this image is from a shoot for a client who sells classic cars. The 30-minute shoot, done on location at a car dealership using the dealer’s wife as a model, yielded four successful stock photos including this one.
Besides some minor usages in advertising and editorial she was featured on the cover of a major car magazine in Germany, as a magazine centerfold, used on the cover of a high class luxury catalog in the US, favored for the book cover of a well known US-writer and used for the campaign of a British bank institute.
Not a bad outcome. For the car enthusiasts: the car used in the shot is a Porsche Speedster A, model year 1956.

Book Cover

Book Cover
Book cover layout for Janelle Brown’s first novel ‘All We Ever Wanted Was Everything’ – Netherlands edition (Alles wat wij wilden was alles). Although the cover was favored by the layouter and they did fight for it like hell, the outline was ‘client killed’. The publisher decided to go with the US cover, featuring a ‘cup of ice’.
Actually, the layouter became angry about the publisher’s ‘stubborn’ decision and they passed back the job for this project stating that for a ‘cup of ice’ an editor is overqualified. However, finally, client is always king and sometimes things are just not turning out.
Janelle Brown is an American essayist and journalist, living in Los Angeles, California, and she is married with filmmaker Greg Harrison. Her work appears regularly in The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, in high class magazines like Elle, Vogue, Wired, Self, among numerous other publications.
For 5 years she was a senior writer at Salon, and began her career as a staff writer at Wired, working on seminal Web sites like Hot Wired and Wired News. Back in the 1990’s, she co-founded Maxi, a women’s pop culture magazine.
‘All We Ever Wanted Was Everything’ is the first novel of Janelle Brown and features a smart, acerbic comedy chronicling one eventful summer when the lives of a family are turned upside-down.
